Welcome to Olive Leaf Quilts
In these pages you will find the artistry of traditional quilt designs with a touch of the whimsical often influenced by provincial France. My approach to quilt making most often stems from the decoration of my home which falls squarely into the category of French Provincial. I am interested in everything within the quilting world but I am especially happy when I am creating what I consider to be a French Quilt.
I have long been aware of the powerful emotions a home can bring, and how our sense of well being is influenced by the atmosphere we live in. Simple everyday objects can bring meaning to our existence. Hands on occupations can supply surprising satisfaction.
A quilt is an article with the ability to influence our mood. Quilts have the necessary attributes that create ambience in the spaces where they are used. They may be utilitarian objects, but they are also forms of applied art that provide beauty, comfort, and nurturing to those who include them in their lives. For those of us who make quilts, there is the additional experience of joy found in self expression and creativity.
The master pianist, Seymour Bernstein, said, “Without craft, there can be no artistry.”
Spending over 25 years at the craft of quilt making has provided me with a studied exposure in this form of art, and provided me with a foundation of knowledge that I cherish. I have experienced surprising joy in striving for greater beauty in these familiar objects and the tasks I use to create them.
My home is an extension of who I am, and how I wish to live. My quilts are an expression of my artistic heart. Having said all this…, will you see different styles of quilts within these pages? Yes you will. Will you see French Provincial quilts here as well? Oh yes! Will there be some decorating? It is very likely. I have been on this journey for some time, and I will continue on. Would you like to be my travel companion?
